Next Camp Schedule, Dates & Booking
There are few people I’ve met in life who have as much passion about helping others as Rodney. He’s a true leader not only in martial arts but in helping people get the most out of life. He cares deeply about getting people results. That’s not easy to find these days. And the best part of everything he does is that what he teaches works!!!
CAMP TRAINING PACK
Every participant receives a camp training pack on arrival. This includes, the CORE16 Trainer Certification Workbook (to be used throughout the 5-days), a sweat towel, water bottle and camp training shirt (extra shirts can be purchased on arrival)
The Camp Facility
Our Crazy Monkey Defense Certification Camp is exclusively held at the School of Crazy Monkey (CM) located at Tree Roots Retreat Rayong, Thailand. Tree Roots Retreat is also an official Crazy Monkey Defense training facility, where people come to train as students in CMD all year round.
Nestled in small fishing village, 5-minutes from Mae Ram Phueng beach, The School of CM offers a world-class training facility, with premium accommodation, and all the amenities you would expect from a Resort. It is also the home of the Rayong Surf School — so if you have ever wanted to learn how to surf, we can arrange that for you too.
All our premium rooms are single occupancy, so you will have your own personal room, aircon, bar fridge and with on en-suite bathroom. Should you want to bring a non-training partner with you, this can easily be accommodated (please see our booking page for more details).
The School of CM has a fully operational training academy. Most of the Trainer Camp sessions are run at the academy, with occasional night time lectures held on the beach.
The School of CM is close to many local beach side seafood restaurants, a fully stocked 7/11, and some quaint bars. Hiring a scooter to drive around is easy to organize. The area is very quiet, and nothing like the hustle and bustle of Bangkok or Phuket. So expect some peaceful downtime when not training. The camp is surrounded by nature, and our closest neighbors are a few cows who graze in the field nearby.
I loved how Rodney King weaved his life story, and together with his martial art practice, was able to succeed and win at the martial arts of everyday life.
What You Learn & Qualify In
What You Will Learn
The 5-day intensive Crazy Monkey Defense Certification Camp focuses on qualifying you as a Licensed Trainer in our CORE16 Program. This also known as the ‘Green Gloves’ level in Crazy Monkey’s performance based evaluation system.
CORE16 is built on our All Terrain Combat Intelligent Athlete Framework (you can read more about this HERE).
CORE16 is a 16-module foundational program that you will teach to your students. Each module is build off the previous module, with most modules being designed so you can teach them independently without a student needing knowledge of prior-modules (with the exception of Module 1, which is required as a prerequisite for all other modules). As part of the CMD Certification Camp you will learn how best to teach the CORE16 Program to others.
Many CORE16 trainers choose to focus on a rotational curriculum model. This means, they typically teach the 16-modules over 16-weeks. In those 16-weeks trainers typically focus on the key ideas presented. At the end of the 16-weeks Trainers either revisit all the modules, or focus on specific modules — with the intention of going into more detail.
CORE16’s key focus area is in developing the CMD stand-up distance game (or CM1 Game for short). In addition, while focusing on the foundational combat athletic base of CMD (i.e., good boxing, kicking, and defensive techniques at a distance), as a Trainer you also learn how to convert that knowledge into street application.
What this means is that when you are teaching the CORE16 curriculum to a student, you are not only ensuring that they develop the necessary combat athletic skills to continue to develop a formidable fighting platform — but that your student will also know how to apply those skills in self-preservation if they need too.
You can view the entire schedule, including what you will learn at the CM Trainers Camp HERE.
What You Certify In & What You Can Teach
By the end of day 5 of the intensive training camp you will have a deep understanding of the foundations of Crazy Monkey Defense as a modern martial arts system. You would have also learned various methods of teaching (i.e. pedagogy), defined your personal philosophy, and learned how to create the right environment for your students to excel in. Crucially, the camp is as much a personal journey of exploration, as it is about learning how to teach the foundations of Crazy Monkey Defense to others.
Throughout the 5-days we will monitor your progress, and will give you valuable feedback along the way. Once you are licensed at the end of the 5th day of the camp, you may now teach others the CORE16 program of Crazy Monkey Defense. This includes recognizing your students for their 1st,2nd, and 3rd lace on their White Gloves (this is part of the student recognition system of CMD).
A white lace by a student is achieved at the end of each 4th module of the CORE16 curriculum. Naturally, you only want to award a student a lace if they are fully capable of performing what is required as outlined in the modules they have learned. This is why we do not put a time frame on students gaining their laces — we leave this to the discretion of their Trainers.
Once your student has completed the entire CORE16, and you are happy with their performance, they may now be awarded their completed White Gloves recognition certificate (i.e., their 4th lace). At this time you need to submit your students name and relevant details to the School of Crazy Monkey Defense.
A nominal fee is charged (find out more HERE) to obtain the White Gloves Rank completion certificate for your student. All Rank Certificates come with a unique members number. Your student will keep their membership number for life. Being a member of the Crazy Monkey Defense global family affords your student/s special rates on training events, discounts and more.
Where To After CORE16
After achieving your Green Gloves (i.e., certified in the CORE16 Certification Program), your next goal is to achieve your Blue Gloves (followed by, Purple, Bronze, Silver & Golden Gloves). You can learn more about the Trainers Glove Ranking System HERE.
There are few ways this can be achieved:
- By attending Annual Training Camps
- Global seminars conducted by Rodney or Eric
- Hosting Rodney or Eric for a workshop at your training facility
- Doing one-on-one in-person coaching sessions with Rodney or Eric
Moving to the next glove ranking is decided by either Rodney or Eric. There are no time limits to move to the next Glove Ranking. But, if you want to continue to recognize your students for their own glove ranks, you need to focus on gaining your own.
Rodney or Eric, will evaluate your game at anytime in-person, and will outline exactly what you need in order to advance to the next Glove Rank. In addition, after the completion of CORE16, you will be given access to our online video version of the Blue Gloves curriculum for Trainers.
Rodney, you made me feel more comfortable within myself, more disciplined. Thank you for coaching me and training me, not only physically but mentally. I’ve become more centred in every aspect of my life. Day by day I say goodbye to the fearful and anxious person I once was. I am so grateful and excited to continue on this journey.
